Kehillah High School
Our Children. Our Future.
We are so excited about the launch of our revised Community Jewish High School Program, now called “Kehillah High.” The Hebrew word kehillah means community, and our new program is focused on bringing our community of teenagers together in a way that is relevant to their lives today. We plan to help them build friendships in an educational environment that meets their diverse interests and busy schedules!
We are looking forward to spending time with your teenagers throughout the upcoming year.

Rabbi Valerie Cohen

Confirmation
Confirmation is a ceremony created by Reform Judaism less than 200 years ago. It is the culmination of post-B’nei Mitzvah students’ advanced study in Judaism. Students deepen their religious knowledge and often take on a service project. Unlike their individual B’nei Mitzvah study and ceremony, Confirmation is worked on as a class and conferred accordingly. Our Confirmation Class takes place through our Kehillah High.
As part of our Confirmation Class, our 10th graders travel to Washington, D.C. to participate in the L’Taken Program of the Religious Action Center of the Reform Movement. They learn about important social issues of our time and the Reform Jewish values connected to them. They then write speeches and actually lobby our Senators and Legislators. Every year, our Confirmands say that this was the highlight of their entire year.
At Temple Emanuel Sinai the ceremony for the Confirmands usually takes place on or near Shavuot. At that Shabbat service, students lead their congregation through chanting the Torah, traditional and contemporary liturgy and song. Each class brings their own talents, interests and grace to bear on the ceremony which confirms their role in our congregation and Judaism.
